Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.
I have heard that saying most of my life. One thing that is true is this, stand alone with what you believe, or become a fool in a big crowd.
Strong words, no doubt. Here we are, letting social injustice happen, while sitting on our asses.
Do you stand for something, or fall for anything?
We all have those areas where we may put our attention. For some it is domestic abuse.
For others, it might be animal rights. Still others may be doing what they can to help homeless veterans.
These are the things that make a person interesting. Have you ever talked with someone when their passion gets brought up? They light up. It is powerful to see, and trumps runway beauty each and every day for me.
Why good looking people are considered more worthy of attention or love is beyond me.
This brings me to a disturbing point. I have not seen the new Star Wars, but many folks had a lot to say about Carrie Fisher not aging well. This is all we have to talk about? Really?
Are you kidding me? Is anyone criticizing Harrison Ford or Mark Hamill? I bet not.
I think it is a sad fact that we shame fat people, and complain that a celebrity did not age well.
Why are people caring about how well Ms. Fisher did or did not age – who cares? Let the fools make fun. I do not want to join them.
I remember being made fun of for not being pretty enough. One day my mom said this “Who died and made them emperor?”
That gave me pause. It made me realize I always have been standing alone. I have many flaws, but they make up who I am along with the positive traits I have.
Being myself is all I have.
Yes, I have a pet cause. I personally hope to help show that other people with brain injuries are not broken people.
I care about what happens to others. I want to help remove the stigma of mental illness. These are the things that motivate me. Not what size pants I wear.
I choose to stand alone if that means standing up for what I feel is right.
